Effects of GA and Daminozide, and Day and Night Temperature Alterations on the Growth of Pentas Lanceolata ¢¥New Look¢¥

Abstract
Stem elongation in Pentas lanceolata ¢¥New Look¢¥ grown under the same daily average temperature (ADT, 24¡É) was found to be influenced by the difference (DIF) between day temperature (DT) and night temperature (NT). Plant height at anthesis increased 128% as DIF increased from -8 to +8. GA treatments increased plant height by 140, 134, and 121 % for -8, 0, +8DIF treatments, respectively whereas a daminozide treatments reduced plant height by 91, 93, and 84%, respectively, indicating that GA stimulation for stem growth was the most effective in -DIF and daminozide reduction was the most effective in +DIF. On the other hand, there were no differences in number of nodes, leaves, and lateral branches, and leaf area between DIFs and between GA and daminozide treatments. The number of days to 50% visible bud was more reduced in +DIF condition than in -DIF condition and the flowering date and flowering rate were profoundly stimulated by GA application as compared to daminozide and control. However, 100% anthesis was obtained from control and GA-treated plant but not from daminozide-treated plant until the termination of experiment.
